PSJA ISD Senior awarded $48K UT Impact Scholarship

PHARR – Representatives from the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) presented PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School (PSJA T-STEM ECHS) Senior Victoria Hurtado with the prestigious $48,000 UT Impact Scholarship in the presence of her friends and loved ones on April 23, 2024. 

The scholarship recognizes students who are making an impact in their community and covers the cost of tuition for the student’s four years at UT Austin. Hurtado was surprised with the news over a special Zoom call with 50 other students from across the state as part of “Impact Day.” 

Hurtado is one of ten students in the Rio Grande Valley and the only student from the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) selected to receive the UT Impact Scholarship this year. 

“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive this scholarship from The University of Texas at Austin,” said Hurtado. “It’s not just financial support, but a validation that my hard work in school and volunteering to make an impact in my community has paid off. I am excited to make the most of this opportunity and thank my campus administrators, teachers, counselors, and family for helping me achieve my dreams.”
